Edict takes place in Atheria, a low-fantasy world where human ambition, political intrigue, and the weight of history shape the fate of kingdoms.
Magic, once pervasive, has been pushed to the fringes of society. Its very existence is now questioned by many. The First Inquisition, centuries ago, nearly eradicated magic from the land, leading to the formation of both the Imperium and the Second Order - powerful, unified sects tasked with maintaining order and suppressing any possible resurgence of the arcane.
The narratives of Edict are largely inspired from the real-world history of the Medieval Inquisition, where the lines between power, faith, and control were often blurred. Much like George R.R. Martin’s use of the War of the Roses as a foundation for his A Song of Ice and Fire series, the conflicts in Edict echo those of the inquisitions - specifically focusing on belief, ambition, and the consequences of each.
This section of the site explores Atheria’s history, detailing narratives, lore, and accounts of key events. You can learn more about the world in the blog where I regularly post brief stories and lore entries, or through the timeline page which catalogs the last several thousand years of Atherian history.
