“History is a battlefield. And the undead have joined the fight.”
- Vladimir Lenin, in a private letter to Red Army Command, 1918
In the smoldering ashes of the Russian Empire, where Marxist ideals clash with imperial nostalgia, a far greater spectre haunts Europe: the undead. The Reds, fueled by revolutionary fervor, battle the Whites, who cling to their fading vision of monarchy and order. But both factions are steadily losing ground to the Greys, unrelenting hordes of undead that care nothing for ideology or class struggle. Meanwhile, opportunists, upstarts, and separatists carve out their own domains while they still can, because here, history has a way of repeating itself... one bite at a time.
Setting
Better Red Than Undead is a tabletop role-playing game set in an alternate history where the Russian Civil War collides with a horrifying undead plague. The year is 1919, and the former Russian Empire is a fractured land of desperate survival, political upheaval, and unrelenting horror.
In this world, the Bolsheviks (Reds) strive to build their revolutionary utopia, the Whites fight to restore imperial glory, and the Grey Plague spreads, unleashing mindless hordes of the undead across the shattered empire. Meanwhile, other nations begin to carve out fragile dominions in a land where ideology, class, and borders are meaningless to the dead.
Better Red Than Undead is a game of strategy, survival, and storytelling. Players will navigate the chaos of war, the relentless march of the undead, and the moral dilemmas of a crumbling society. Whether you align with the revolutionary Reds, the embattled Whites, or forge your own path in the Pale Provinces, every decision matters, because victory belongs to those who endure both the living and the dead.
